Review of the day

I think you could argue that the tips didn’t have a great deal of luck yesterday – but I don’t think there could be much argument today !

I tipped in 3 races - and how there were no returns, is beyond me…

The first tip to run was Junction Fourteen.
My angle on him was that he might get an uncontested lead – however, Gold Present raced very freely and Junction Fourteen couldn’t get to the front.

Despite that, he ran a fair race, staying on into 4th place.

It was exactly the same as with Vibrato Voltat yesterday – he wasn’t unlucky, but with a bit of fortune, he could easily have placed…

Bizarrely, it was the same with Missed Approach in the Ladbroke Trophy.
He ran an absolute screamer in his first time blinkers, but half way down the home straight, it became apparent that he wasn’t going to win.

The question then became whether he could stay on for a place.
In a race where the bookmakers paid down to fifth –you guessed it, he finished  sixth !

Even more annoying was that one place in front of him was Pilgrims Bay.
He was an eye catcher last time and I considered putting him up each way at 66/1, as well.
It can be a tough game !

And then came the Rehearsal chase at Newcastle...
I ended up with 2 in that race – and how one of them didn’t win, I’m not sure !

Wakanda disputed the lead for most of the race, and headed a breakaway group of 4 into the straight.
However, he then made one mistake too many – and his race was over.

That left Boric and Yala Enki disputing – but Bishops Road was stalking and Jamie Moore pounced going to the last.
The race looked all over – but then Beware the Bear appeared out of nowhere to snatch the spoils.

He looked beaten leaving the back straight but evidently managed to find a second wind.
I honestly couldn’t believe it…

As for the Mentions: then Dino Velvet ran well at Newbury – but just lacked a final kick and ended up finishing fifth. He should be able to build on the run.
High Bridge got an enterprising ride from his young jockey and stole the Gerry Fielden from the front (though, I’m not sure he was particularly flattered by the win).
Whilst the unexpected rain at Newbury turned the ground in Overtown Expresses favour (and against Theinval), and he demolished the field in the finale.

At Newcastle, Indian Voyage was another who ran a fair race – he eventually finished fourth; whilst Buveur D’Air won the Fighting Fifth as he was entitled. Flying Tiger ran a nice race to finish third.

At Fairyhouse, Nearly Nama’d was a surprise (unless you were Neil !) winner of the big handicap – as he had been 2 years ago; whilst at Doncaster, Barlow was backed in to 11/4 favouritism; traded odds on in running – and finished fourth !
If only everything was so predictable !!

TVB.
