Review of the day

I think the main purpose of today, was to remind us that this game isn’t as easy as it can sometimes look !

On the back of yesterdays successes, I’m sure expectations were high for another good day – but that’s not how it panned out…

In fairness, I think the ground at Carlisle was riding softer than I expected (and the going description suggested) – and I don’t think that helped in the big race.

I ended up tipping 3 in that contest – and did feel as if I had most angles covered.
However, Bindon Mill was soon struggling – and Templeross looked like a novice, up against seasoned handicappers.
A Good Skin travelled nicely through the race – but he needs decent ground – and when push came to shoved off the home turn, he had nothing to give…

The race was fought out by 3 outsiders – all with an abundance of stamina and a preference for soft ground.
That seemed to help explain why the tips ran so poorly…

Earlier in the afternoon, Cooking Fat had unshipped his rider at the fourth last.
He probably wouldn’t have won – but he wasn’t completely beaten at the time – and certainly still had a chance of placing…

The race was fought out by 2 of the others that I was half interested in: Mister Whitaker and Solstice Star.
At least I was in the right ball park !
The money came late for Bering Upson in the handicap hurdle – and sure enough, he ran a really big race.
He was arguably unlucky to come up against a couple of improvers – but still managed to take third place (and some place money).

Whilst Waiting Patiently showed his class in the Intermediate chase: stalking Belami des Pictons and pouncing after the last.
The acid test for him, will be when he takes on the big boys, down south.

Eye catcher, I Just Know, put the pace to the race – but simply wasn’t up to the class.
There will be other days for him.

Finally, the Cork National was another race which didn’t go according to (my) plan…

Racing Pulse never went a yard  - and was pulled up not long after half way: whilst Kings Song didn’t fare a whole lot better…

A Sizing Network did at least run a race - but he probably did too much, too soon and was a sitting duck up the home straight…
The race was won by the novice, Logical Song.
He had a lot to prove – but was very well backed pre-race and duly bolted up…

Back down to earth with a bump !!
