It
was always a possibility, that there wouldn’t be much positive to report in
terms of the performance of todays tips – and unfortunately, that’s how it
turned out…
I
issued 4 on the day – but they were more in hope than expectation – and non of
them performed well…
First up was Dounikos – and he ran particularly
disappointingly.
I
knew he would have his work cut out to get the better of Presenting Percy – but
he simply didn’t run his race.
The
pre-racing betting suggested that might happen, with him out to 16 at the off on
BF.
Even
at Cheltenham the market can be quite prophetic !
Le
Breiul wasn’t as weak in the betting – but he ran equally
disappointingly.
Settled in behind the leaders, he was under pressure before the home turn – and found nothing.
Settled in behind the leaders, he was under pressure before the home turn – and found nothing.
Maybe it was a case of too much, too soon for him – as I’m sure he
will eventually prove himself much better than todays performance
suggested.
The
third tip to run was Hurricane Darwin in the cross country chase – and he
actually ran a fair race.
He
was again settled in last place – but he travelled really sweetly – and briefly,
about half a mile from home, I thought he had a chance.
However, he was a bit too far out of his ground – and he
found little for pressure.
He’s
definitely one to keep an eye on though, in cross country events – maybe over
slightly shorter.
The
final tip on the day, was Rhinestone.
He
was quite well backed – but was another to run disappointingly.
There was no obvious reason for his poor run – he just
didn’t seem good enough, which surprised me a little...
Earlier on the card, Samcro announced himself as the next
super-star in waiting, by winning a hot renewal of the Ballymore in convincing
style.
It
will be fascinating to see what he does next season (I would guess he’ll go over
fences – but I’ve not seen that confirmed).
Altior showed himself a true Champion, responding to
pressure, to run down – and then power away from Min.
It
would have been fascinating to see how he would have dealt with Douvan – but
unfortunately that one took a fall around half way, when still travelling
nicely.
Finally, the Fred Winter was won by Veneer of Charm,
representing Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy.
Looking at his form, you could only really have backed
him based on his connections – so it was probably a race best
swerved.
On
to tomorrow…
TVB.
